Creating Great Slide Decks

Introduction

This short course focuses on three things to help you create great slide decks. First, you’ll learn why you need to focus on your message before building the slide deck. Second, you’ll learn specific design strategies for slides. And third, you’ll learn how to use these techniques to create slides in common presentation software.

Be clear about your message FIRST

In this module, you will learn how to create a clear message by using a straightforward four step process. You will identify your key message and use that to build an outline and content for your presentation.

Use good slide design strategies

Once you have a clear message and content, it is time to build your slide deck. This module covers the top design strategies for slide decks that are clear, to the point, and have a wow factor.

How to Build the Slide Deck Intro

Now that you know the key design strategies, it is time to learn how to apply them in presentation software. During this module you get a quick overview of what you need to prepare and then get demonstrations for PowerPoint (Windows & Mac); Keynote; Google Slides; and Canva.

A Word About Templates & Bullet Points

We’ve been conditioned to believe a slide is supposed to be a title and bullet points. We rely heavily on templates for the layout and design of slides. Sometimes we don't have a choice in how our slides can be designed. In this module, you will get advice on how to use templates or bullet points if you are required to use them.
